look i no u love what u do but id rather have people learn this off the internet and get some idea then just do it and fail and try to learn on their own and i u say well they shouldnt be doing it like that in the first place. well people were giving home made tattoos long before u were born and r gona continue long after u r dead

it’s really sad that our craft has come to this. years of knowledge that has been heavily guarded is just put on the internet. it’s okay though. anyone that knows anything about tattooing and the strong tradition it has knows that this guy has NO idea. it’s come down to just washed out knowledge being passed down to people that will pick it up, wash it down more, and pass it down to wash it out some more. the real secrets will always remain ours to pass on to the lucky few that seek them out.

DEFINITELY must be an ARTIST in the first place, I’d say good luck to anybody seeking an apprenticeship but LUCK hasn’t got anything to do with it, get your skills up ppl

thank you, from a scratcher, got no choice,be called a scratcher and do what I love or be ashamed of a stupid word and dont get any better at my craft. All the great artists out there started somewhere, hopefully I be one of those one day

When Pro tattoo artists won’t take on someone who wants to learn or charge so much that the person can’t even afford to pay his or her bills because they are kept at the shop for 12 or more hours for 2 , 3, or more years and you wonder why people go for the training video’s.

did all u pros no that kat von D started out as a scratcher, u can say its not true bu its is, and look at the talent she has, just gos 2 show there are many paths to the same place, apprenticeship or not.

For all of those who say the industry is going downhill then the only ones who can fix that are the well known artists in the business. Take someone under your wing, teach hold seminars show the rite path to take, don’t just bash bash bash because someone wants to try something. And its 50 50 as far as Im concerned, if you are willing to allow a novice artist to work on you, you are just as much to blame for so called bringing the industry down with crappy art.

I understand every ones views on this touchy subject. But i feel as though people are going to buy the kits and do tattoos without apprenticeships no matter what the bicker. This is better than nothing, even though it may not be perfect. For everyone talking shit, and for all of you who are pros and been doing this forever, make some videos for beginners to learn from, if your techniques are perfect.

This is exactly why we are so mad. This is why you should not learn from a DYI video.

This is the kind of shit ruining our industry.
This is what you call competition.

We are Elitists, arrogant, over priced, snobby, high and mighty, scared, secretive, and any other colorful adjective you want to throw at us and you actually expect us to give you what we have worked years to obtain for nothing? Because you feel it is your right or that you are entitled? What makes you worthy of leaning the craft many have worked hard to learn.

You cannot tattoo well without knowing the correct techniques to apply without traumatizing the skin, and the only way to achieve that is through an apprenticeship, and like Cronic said, to get that apprenticeship, you got to have artistic talent. And the dude in the vid. proves that bad tattoos, SUCK!

14 years of watching people who think it’s all “tracing and coloring in the lines” fuckin’ people up. Trashing the life style I live just so they can be the cool tattoo guy. That is my attitude and the attitude of many other artists who are tired of seeing this industry go to shit. The attitude is not elitist, it is protectionist.

CronicArt

Because he is NOT an artist! The reason you all are turned down for apprenticeships is because you must be an artist first! Everyone wants to tattoo for all the wrong reasons. Tattooing is not the route to fame and fortune. You don’t get an apprenticeship just because you ask for it. You must show you are worthy of having the craft passed on to you. If you are not an artist you can not be a tattoo artist. Period!

Hey immune…..out of curiosity are you the guy who made the vid. It stands to reason, considering all you do is talk shit on alot of people who have legit concerns. I do think that an apprenticeship isn’t the only way, just the sensible way. I didn’t do one, and neither did one of my friends and we are both phenominal and well renound artists in our communities. BUT, there are serious saftey concerns with this guys videos if nothing else. Your comments are also kind of childish…. really.

Dude….stfu, church burner is right, don’t listen to this guy.

I would recommend a hand built tattoo machine from a reputable tattoo machine builder, such as Aaron Cain, Danny Knight, or Terry Stafford of the U.K , just to name a few.

We actually welcome competition. Competition from competent “artists”! Competition brings new techniques, new attitudes, new ideas and pushes an artist to excel to new levels. We don’t hate on each other, we actually hang out together and share ideas. If competition was a problem there would not be any tattoo conventions. Conventions are our way of gathering and exchanging ideas, experiences, technology and techniques. There is a right way of doing things and DYI videos aren’t it!

CronicArt

December 2, 2009

We are not afraid of competition. We don’t want people who have no business tattooing to be encouraged to do so. We are not trying to hold a monopoly. We are trying to keep you hack fucks from ruining our industry. I’m so glad you think you know me. I’m not a kid and I didn’t have to kiss ass. I’ve been doing this for 14 years and have watched the this business go down hill because everyone thinks they have a right to do something they have no talent for.

CropCircle76

They are shit because they are mass produced and with no quality control, that’s why they are cheap. Most of them don’t have the right geometry, they are all produced simply to turn a buck!
